History in the making

Mission Statement

Ignite Institute for Early Learning is a warm and loving childcare center with classrooms that serve engage children from 6 weeks to 5 years, in age appropriate faith-based learning. It is our mission to provide a supportive and nurturing learning environment where children are lovingly guided to grow physically, cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually. Our carefully crafted program is designed to provide the children in attendance with a superb framework for a successful transition to elementary school while also building a personal, meaningful, Christ-centered worldview.

Values and Approach

At Ignite, we desire to honor Christ in all aspects of our program, including our educational approach. To educate not just the mind, the entire person as a whole, we utilize the Charlotte Mason method. Charlotte Mason was a British author, teacher, and lecturer in the late 1800s. Her philosophy of education has persisted for over a century and has regained popularity recently, especially among a subset of private and homeschooling families. The Charlotte Mason educational model seeks to help students create positive habits that affect not just their schooling, but their lives. In her words, "Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life."

Atmosphere...

The importance of parent-teacher cooperation & support!

By "atmosphere," Charlotte meant the surroundings in which the child grows up. While we are in a school setting and focus on the atmosphere in the classroom, we know that a child absorbs a significant amount of their ideas and values from their home environment. Charlotte believed that "the ideas that rule your life as the parent make up one-third of your child’s education."

Statistically, research supports this ideology. So we will gladly endeavor to get to know each of our students and their families so we can work cooperatively together in your child's education.

Discipline...

Lays an educational feast.

Charlotte said, "We spread an abundant and delicate feast, and each small guest assimilates what he can."

Presenting a plethora of learning subjects is the only way to ensure a child is well versed in just as many topics.

By "discipline," Charlotte also meant the discipline of good habits—specifically, habits of character. Cultivating good habits in a child’s life makes up another third of the child’s education. Therefore, we endeavor to instill good habits and routines for actions and attitudes that are grounded in Christian ethics and values.

Life...

Charlotte Mason said, "Never be within doors when you can rightly be without."

Charlotte believed that children should be given living thoughts and ideas, not just dry facts. So her methods for teaching the various school subjects are built around that concept. Therefore, we endeavor to turn academics into playful and fun learning experiences that are fully alive.

This approach uses short, intentionally focused lessons and time-frames to keep learning fun throughout the day! Learning stays alive when children move seamlessly from one activity to the next (guided by their teacher), continuously engaged in a dynamic atmosphere!

Originally from Spokane, Washington, I’ve called Kentucky home for the past 11 years. I’m blessed with a loving husband and three amazing children. My eldest is a high school sophomore, our middle child just graduated from Ignite Jr. Kindergarten and is starting Kindergarten, and our youngest is in the new Early Learners program here at Ignite. I’m thankful for God’s guidance in bringing us to Ignite, first for my daughter’s faith-based education, and now for the chance to work here. Ignite has been a transformative experience for our family, and I’m honored to share God’s love with every baby in my classroom. Outside of school, I enjoy coffee, traveling, and spending time with God’s creation on horseback.

My fiancé and I have been together for three years, and we had our first son in 2024. While pregnant, I experienced the rigors of cosmetology school, persevering to graduate, test, and obtain my hair styling state license just weeks before giving birth. Before cosmetology school, I worked in childcare settings for four years, where I was the lead teacher for one- and two-year-olds. Then I moved on to work at Boone County High School with special needs teenagers for two years. I have loved working with children, and now, becoming a mom myself, I can’t wait to give care and love again to infants, toddlers, and early learners at Ignite! When I am not in the classroom, I like to spend my free time with my little family, going to car shows and camping.

Hey friends! I live in Oakbrook. My fiancé, Kevin, is a realtor. I have three wonderful children—a high schooler, an elementary schooler, and one who attends Ignite! I’ve worked in childcare since I was 19 and absolutely fell in love with caring for and watching children learn and thrive. My faith is central to my life, and it’s a blessing to work at Ignite, where I can help guide your child(ren) on their educational and spiritual journey. In my free time, I enjoy attending my children’s sports and activities and going on adventures with my family. We love exploring new places and discovering new things to do! I’m excited to share the love of learning and the joy of Jesus with your child(ren) (Proverbs 22:6)!

Tuesday, Thursday (+ MWF)

I grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Kentucky in 2021 after marrying my husband, Logan. A 2015 mission trip to Italy changed my life and led me to pursue a BA in Biblical Justice with a minor in Psychology and Counseling. I also hold an associate degree in Business Administration. We now have a son, who is also attending Ignite, and I attend 7Hills Church. Returning to ministry has been on my heart for some time, so finding Ignite has been a blessing. I’m excited to assist Ms. Lindsay and Ms. Erika on MWF and lead the Early Learners on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teaching your little ones is a joy—they are treasures from the Lord, and I’m thrilled to be part of their journey.

I have been dedicated to early childhood education for fourteen years. I am blessed with three wonderful children, aged 13, 9, and 4, and I am excitedly expecting another addition to our family in January. As a country girl at heart, I cherish the simple joys in life, such as faith, nature, music, art, dancing, food, and family. Teaching and art are my true passions, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share these loves with your beginners and intermediate preschoolers every day at Ignite.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area, but I’ve been rooted in Kentucky for 11 years now. I am married and a proud mother to two beautiful children who attend Ignite. My passion for education was ignited during my time at Coastal Carolina University (CCU), where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at CCU, I completed two education internships, partnering with local K-12 schools to teach and lead environmental conservation programs. Over the past few years, I’ve served as a long-term substitute teacher with Boone County Schools, and more recently, as a lead school-age teacher at a local academy. I’m thrilled to join the team at Ignite and to help shape the bright minds of our future!

I’m 20 years old and currently live in Burlington. After graduating from Conner High School, I moved to New Jersey last December and started working at a daycare. It quickly became my favorite job! I also attend Florence Baptist Temple, where I’ve worked in the nursery and toddler room. When I’m not working, I love spending time with family and friends, and I try to travel as much as possible. I’m thrilled to be here, working with your wonderful children. We’re going to have so much fun learning, playing, and creating great memories together!

Born and raised in Northwest Ohio, I moved to the Cincinnati area in 2008 to start my teaching career. After 4.5 years of teaching, I discovered my passion for behavioral therapy. I pursued a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis and transitioned to inpatient psychology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. I earned my national board certification as a BCBA and began my career in behavior therapy. I’ve worked with children and adults with disabilities in home, community, and clinic settings. Teaching young children is my passion; I love watching them grow into their unique personalities. I live in Union with my husband and three children. I enjoy baking, reading, traveling, and doing arts and crafts with my family. I’m proud to be a staff assistant at Ignite, sharing my talents with this amazing team!

Ms. Brenda Jones

Substitute Teacher

I have been married to my husband for almost 31 years. We have 6 adult children, 10 grandchildren, and one handsome little great grandson. I am a retired Dental Assistant of 26 years. Growing up, I had 10 older siblings, so, I had ample nieces and nephews to practice caregiving. I also taught Sunday School and children's church at the various churches I attended. I worked previously at a daycare in Union, and a Christian preschool in Florence. I was honored to join Ignite in their debut year, I loved teaching fulltime for two years and I am excited to support the staff as a substitute in my 2nd chapter of retirement.

Ms. Barbara Aaron

Substitute Teacher

Ms. Barb nurtured and taught young children for 20 years, and she loved it so much she came out of retirement to teach again when she joined Ignite in our debut year. After teaching for two additional years, she retired fully last summer. Before Ignite she worked as a lead teacher for 12 years, enjoyed being a teaching aide before that, working in Children’s Ministry, and raised her 3 children, all three in college now. She likes to spend her free time with her family and serving at the food pantry with her church. She looks forward to being part of your child’s preschool adventure, praying for Ignite fulltime and substituting this year as needed.

Ms. Tyra O'Hara

Substitute Teacher

My husband and I have been married for 30 years. We raised three sons, two of whom got married last fall. I joined the Ignite staff in 2022. Prior to teaching here at Ignite, I enjoyed a long career in nursing. After much prayer and contemplation, I left the nursing profession in October 2020. I am so glad the Lord led me here. I have wonderful coworkers, and I enjoy working with these amazing children—what a blessing! In my free time, I love reading, ATV trail riding, and cooking new dishes. I love our new location, and I am looking forward to this new school year! As I return to Ignite for my third year, I am excited about my new, more flexible role and the opportunities it brings.

Educational Methodology

Ignite believes in a dynamic, experiential, and intentional approach to teaching and learning. This approach fosters children's intellectual development as they are encouraged to explore their environment and express themselves through words, movement, drawing, painting, playing, and other natural modes of expression. We promote an environment where children can develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for a successful and meaningful life.

Ignite teachers engage children in activities focused on relationships and inquiry using "Living Methods." "Living Methods" mean...

  • The environment has been designed to support rich learning experiences and holistic growth.
  • We don't use dry textbooks, but books and materials written in story or narrative form that make subjects come alive. Children learn to tell back, or narrate in their own words, what they are learning as they practice using rich language, pointing out ideas they are gleaning from the materials, projects, and books, and demonstrating the mental connections they make between them and other ideas already residing in their growing minds and hearts.
  • We encourage spending time outdoors, interacting with God’s creation firsthand, and learning the living ways of nature (weather permitting).
  • We share a full feast of ideas from a wide variety of sources—from art, to the Bible, to walking in nature, to counting and math, to singing, to foreign languages, to handwriting, and much more for the purposes of helping them find the subjects they gravitate towards and posses strengths in, to gain knowledge and broader understanding in subjects they may be as yet under exposed to, and to gain a broad and well-rounded education.
  • Throughout it all, we emphasize the habits of full attention, best effort, and learning for the sake of learning. It's all designed to help the child grow—for when we learn, we grow.
